Lessson # 1

Today’s Lesson is found in the Book of Matthew.

Please take out your Bible,.  and turn to the Book of Matthew.    Chapter #  1.   If you don’t have access to the Holy Bible in your language;.  you can access these passages on the website,.  https://www.biblegateway.com.

In the NIV version of the Holy Bible,.  the first chapter of the Book of Matthew,.  verses 1-16;   is actually a genealogy,.  or a line of descent,.  traced continuously from an ancestor.   Verse #17 then tells us that there were exactly fourteen generations that transpired between the life of Abraham,.  the father of Israel,.  and King David,.  the second King of Israel.   Then there were fourteen more generations that transpired between the life of King David,.  and the exile of the Israelites to the land of Babylon.   And finally,.  there were exactly fourteen more generations that transpired from the exile of the Israelites,.  to the birth of Jesus Christ!  (Matthew chapter 1,.  verses 1-17).

The next part of the Book of Matthew,   Chapter 1,   verses 18-25,.  is an account of the very birth of our Lord and Savior.   Mary,.  the mother of Jesus,.  was to be given in marriage to Joseph.   But before their union could take place,.  Mary,.  a virgin,.  was impregnated by the Holy Spirit.    An angel of the Lord named Gabriel had visited Mary in a dream,.  and told her that she would bear a Son,.  and that His name would be Jesus;.  Son of the Most High (Mary and Joseph were tested by a miracle.   An angel saved them – Jean-Pierre Isbouts – May 9,. 2019 – National Geographic.com).

Joseph was a righteous and Godly man.   So when he found out that Mary was with child,.  he planned to quietly end their relationship.   But an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream,.  and told him to take Mary home as his wife;.  and to call his newborn Son Jesus.   The angel also cautioned Joseph to refrain from having relations with Mary until after the baby was born;.  and He was named Jesus (Matthew Chapter 1,.  verses 18-25)        (Joseph’s Dream – Doug Scalise – Dec. 22,. 2014 – Brewster Baptist Church)

Jesus,.   I come to you today with a heavy and troubled heart.    My life right now is a total mess.   So many things in my life have gone wrong.    So many of my plans and projects have resulted in failure.    At one time in my life,.   I had high hopes for the future;.   but now I am very hurt and very upset about how things actually turned out.  Jesus……Jesus…….,.  I need you right now.    I am disgusted with my life the way it is.    I have no real friends that I can count on,.   and I am depressed,.  disappointed,.  dejected,.  and sorrowful.    But I do believe with all my heart that you can help me.  Jesus,.   I know that you love me so much that you willingly died on a wooden cross at Calvary for the full remission of all my sins.    I know that I am a sinner,.   and that the punishment for sin is death;.   but that you took my place on that cross at Calvary,.   so that just by my believing in you,.   and that you died for me;.   that I can have new life now,.   and one day go to be with you in Heaven for all eternity.    Jesus,.   I love you.    I need you.    Please come into my heart,.   right here,.   right now.   and wash away all my sins;    with the very same blood that you shed for me;.    on that old wooden cross at Calvary.    Jesus Christ of Nazareth,.   I accept you today as my Lord and Savior,.   and I will profess and proclaim your mighty name to everyone whom I meet.    Please fill me with your Holy Spirit,.   and help me to turn my life around.    I am so happy that you came into my life today……..  and thank you so very much for saving me from my sins!  Amen.
